Centennial Celebration

On January 30, 1923, a group of individuals in Washington adopted a set of by-laws and elected thirteen directors to form the Chamber of Commerce.   We’re celebrating the Chamber’s Centennial this year, and we could not be more grateful to be here! We love promoting this community with you and are excited to take this opportunity to celebrate successes and build for the future.
Thank you for supporting us as we work to fulfill our value focus:
  • Strengthening Business
  • Bettering the Local Economic Climate
  • Enhancing the Quality of Life
  • Promoting Growth

We're bringing back an old event and couldn't be more excited about the possibilities!  Don't be fooled by the name - “Membership Feuds” are not angry mobs of members, as I originally thought, but more of a Membership Drive challenge between Board members (and the teams they assembled).  The loser had to push the winner up Main Street in a wheel barrow.  This happened more than once and seems to have been great fun and entertainment for everyone, judging by the coverage (and trash talk) in the paper.   The fun happens in late February, and you won't want to miss it.  Watch our social media to follow along!

We will be working with students from the CAPS Program at Four Rivers Career Center to develop  video interviews with our members about the impact of the Chamber in their business, and in the community as a whole.

Other videos will focus on educating the community on the Chamber's purpose, history, and outlook.

Members will receive additional information about interviews by e-mail.

We're adding some extra pizzazz to the Annual Banquet with a Red Carpet Photo Area and a Champagne Toast.  In addition to honoring our latest "Chairman's Circle" members of 50 years or more, we will also recognize past Chamber Board and Staff members.

In April, we will host a Poster and Essay contest for local students.

Entries are due by April 30.  Winners will be notified by March 5.

More details and entry form coming soon!

It's no small task, but we are digging through our archives to find the best throwback pics and stories to share on social media and our Blog!  We can't wait to share our favorite finds!

Volunteering is a way of life in WashMO, so including a Community Service aspect in our celebration was a natural choice.  The challenge will end in October.  Details are being finalized and will be shared when available!

Watch for our Centennial Issue of the Washington Insight Magazine in November, with a re-cap of our celebrations!

We will be partnering the with CAPS program at Four Rivers Career Center to sell ads for the Insight Magazine.  Students will be contacting businesses in September and October.  Ads will be due Friday, November 3.
